Aam Aadmi Party supremo and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced 'Sanjeevani' scheme to provide free healthcare for senior citizens in Delhi.

According to Kejriwal, 'Sanjeevani' scheme will be launched after AAP returns to power in Delhi next year.

Under the new scheme, senior citizens of Delhi can avail free healthcare from any private or government hospital in the national capital. The 'Sanjeevani' scheme will be applicable to all people above 60 years of age and there will be no restriction on the basis of income.

Speaking at the launch of the scheme, Kejriwal said AAP workers will reach out to people's doorsteps in two to three days to register senior citizens for the scheme.

At a program organized at the party headquarters, the AAP supremo said, “Today I am going to announce 'Sanjeevani Yojana' for the people of Delhi. Under this, all people above 60 years of age will get free health care. “We will present and pass this scheme later. Whether they (senior citizens) want to get treatment in a government hospital or a private hospital, the entire treatment will be free.”

He further said – “There will be no BPL, APL, TPL or RPL. There will be no upper limit. The entire treatment cost will be borne by the Delhi government. Registration will start in two to three days. But, you need to go somewhere for registration. No. Your volunteers will come to your home for registration and give you the health card.”

The 'Sanjeevani' scheme comes days after Kejriwal announced the launch of Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana to provide monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 to women in the city and promised to increase it to Rs 2,100 after the elections. AAP is seeking a third consecutive full term in Delhi, after its landslide victory in 2020, where it had won 62 out of 70 seats. The upcoming elections will serve as a test of the party's governance model.

AAP and its leaders have increased their reach out to women and elderly voters ahead of the February 2025 assembly elections.

During a padayatra in Badarpur constituency on 16 December, Kejriwal claimed that a survey showed that 60 per cent of women in Delhi were ready to vote for AAP.

Kejriwal said, “There will be some reduction in my penance as 40 per cent women are not voting for me. This time, 100 per cent women should vote for the Aam Aadmi Party.”
