India & Pakistan to play the opening match of the Kho Kho World Cup 2025
Hosts India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in the opening match of the upcoming Kho Kho World Cup starting on 13th January, the organizers announced on Wednesday.
The first-ever Kho Kho World Cup will see a total of 24 countries participating in the tournament and it will be organized at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium and the Noida Indoor Stadium.
The event will take place in a league-cum-knockout format, for both men and women.
The league games will start on the 13th January and there will be an opening ceremony on the same day. The opening game will be played on the same day, Kho Kho WC CEO Vikram Dev Dogra confirmed in the press conference.
Following the league game on the 13th, the matches will be played on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of January. The knockouts will start on 17th January with quarter-finals being played on the 17th and semis on 18th January.
The final of the tournament will be played on 19th January.
For the tournament, the national camp consisting of 60 men and 60 women is currently undergoing at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, and the Indian teams — men and women — for the World will be selected from among these players.
Among Asian countries, Indonesia will send only their women’s teams while all other nations will send both their men’s and women’s squads.
The league also announced that Indian actor Salman Khan has been onboarded as the brand ambassador for the tournament and will be promoting the sport across the country.
