BTS Jungkook’s ‘Standing Next To You’ copied by Vietnamese artist? Know full scoop

New Delhi: BTS member Jungkook’s track Standing Next to You has sparked a heated plagiarism debate. Vietnamese pop artist Hùng Huỳnh, known by his stage name Gemini, is under fire for allegedly copying elements of Jungkook’s song for his recent release Can't Close My Eyes.

Fans, especially Vietnamese ARMYs noticed striking similarities between the two songs, particularly in the melody of the chorus. Social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) buzzed with side-by-side comparisons on Wednesday (December 18). The discussion extended beyond the song’s composition with fans pointing out that Hùng Huỳnh’s music video and choreography mirrored Jungkook’s performance version of Standing Next to You.

One detail that stood out was Hùng Huỳnh’s outfit in the video. The singer wore a white t-shirt while dancing, an uncanny echo of Jungkook’s signature look and moves in his video. Frustrated fans expressed their outrage using the hashtag #StopCopyingBTS, which quickly gained traction.

The controversy escalated when Kewtiie, the producer of Hùng Huỳnh’s song addressed the allegations in a way that upset fans further. In his response, he posted an image of Michael Jackson with the caption, “Everything comes from here, why so tense?” This comment seemed to dismiss the accusations by implying that Jungkook himself had borrowed inspiration from the King of Pop.

However, ARMYs were quick to defend Jungkook. They noted that he has always been transparent about his admiration for Michael Jackson, even calling Standing Next to You a tribute to the late legend. Fans felt the producer’s statement was not only dismissive but also disrespectful.

As of now, BIGHIT MUSIC, Jungkook’s agency has not released an official statement regarding the allegations. Fans continue to voice their frustrations online, urging the agency to take action.
