Genmoji and Image Playground AI tools come with iOS 18.2 on iPhone 16, know how to use them

Apple Intelligence New Features: If you have an iPhone 16 series or iPhone 15 Pro model, you've probably heard about Apple's new Apple Intelligence features, Genmoji and Image Playground, launched with iOS 18.2. These tools take your creativity to the next level. Genmoji lets you create custom emojis that don't already exist, like a dog in a pilot suit. Image Playground lets you create AI-generated images from text-based prompts.

How to use Genmoji?

Before you try the Genmoji feature, make sure you've enabled Apple Intelligence on your iPhone.

go to settings: Set the language to English (US) or English (UK) on iPhone 16 or iPhone 15 Pro.
Turn on Apple Intelligence: Go to Settings > Apple Intelligence and turn it on. It may take some time to download the background data.

Step-by-step guide

Open the iMessage app and open any chat.
Tap the emoji tray. You will see a glowing emoji icon in the top right. Tap it.
Now a text box will open in front of you, where you can enter the prompt of your choice, like “spider wearing glasses” or “sun wearing cape.”
Tap 'Done'. The Genmoji you create will appear in your chat. Tap the Add button to send it.
You can reuse the Genmoji you've created by going to the stickers page on the default keyboard of iOS.

How to use Image Playground?

After the iOS 18.2 update, you will find a new app pre-installed on your iPhone, called Playground.

Step-by-step guide

Open the Playground app. Your iPhone will download some background data the first time you open it.
After the download is complete, enter the text prompt. Example: “Dancing kitten on Mars.”
Apple Intelligence AI will create different variations for you in some time.
Tap on the three dots menu given on the image you like and save it or share it directly.

AI-based animations and custom characters

The Playground app also lets you turn your photos into AI-based characters.
Choose your photo and convert it into animated or illustration style.
You can choose the style using various photo references.
