Burdwan district receives investment proposals worth Rs 4,650 crore in MSME sector

Kolkata Kolkata:Investment proposals worth Rs 4,650 crore have been registered in the MSME sector in Burdwan district, which is estimated to reach Rs 10,000 crore in the coming years, according to state MSME minister Chandranath Sinha. Mr Sinha addressed the “Synergy and Trade Facilitation Conference, 2024-25” for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at the Srijani Auditorium of the civic body today. He said: “In 2024-25, bank credit to MSME units in East and West Burdwan is estimated to be Rs 7,371 crore. The number of units registered till December 15 this year has reached 1,19,703, which is a very encouraging figure.” East Burdwan has 69,656 units, while its western counterpart, known mainly for heavy industries, has registered 50,047 units. West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation (WBSIDC), a special purpose vehicle for MSMEs, is accelerating the development of three new industrial parks in East and West Burdwan. This includes a Common Facility Center for Refractory Brick Cluster at Salanpur in Asansol at a cost of Rs 11.72 crore, which will include 135 units and employ 5,100 employees. Work is underway on a new industrial park at a cost of Rs 14.51 crore on 7.09 acres at Dharma, Salanpur, which will house 27 MSME units.

Besides this, the focus has also been on the second phase of the ambitious Durgapur Industrial Park spread over 27.32 acres at a cost of Rs 75.38 crore, said Hiranmoy Chaudhary, assistant manager of WBSIDC in Durgapur. “The second phase of the industrial park being built on 15.76 acres at Shaktigarh in East Burdwan at a cost of Rs 15.18 crore is almost complete and the state-of-the-art infrastructure will undoubtedly attract many MSME units soon,” the minister said. The minister said two state-aided private industrial parks are being developed over 43.40 acres at Andal in Durgapur, where 61 MSME units with an accumulated investment potential of Rs 150 crore are to be accommodated.

Kabi Dutta, Chairman, Asansol Durgapur Development Authority, proposed to the Minister in today's conference to set up a state-of-the-art Entrepreneurship Training Center in Durgapur to encourage prospective investors. He said: “We need to develop smart investors with future vision in the coming days and for this we need to train the youth.” The minister said that a total of 58 units in these two districts have got benefits under the Banglasree Incentive Scheme. Under the Bhavishyat Credit Card Scheme, an MSME initiative for unemployed youth with no educational barriers, a total of 4,757 loan applications have been approved by banks in these two districts for self-reliance till last November.
