Before Trump took power, the concern of foreign students increased, they started getting advice to return to American campus.
Concord: Many colleges and universities in America are worried that Trump may once again impose travel restrictions like his first administration. Due to which they are advising international students to return to their campus before future President Donald Trump takes power.
Even though there is uncertainty about Trump's plans, more than a dozen educational institutions have issued advisories. The spring semester at some schools will begin before Trump takes office, so students may have to return to class anyway. But he says for those whose ability to stay in the US depends on an academic visa, it is best to minimize their risks and return to campus before January 20.
What did Trump do in his first term?
In January 2017, Trump issued an executive order banning travel to the US from citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries, namely Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. Passengers coming from these countries were either stopped from boarding the planes or were stopped at American airports after landing. These included students and teachers as well as businessmen, tourists and friends and family members.
Visas of more than 40,000 people were canceled
According to the US State Department, Trump later removed some countries from the list and added others to it. During his presidency, 15 countries were affected at one point or another. Ultimately, more than 40,000 people were refused visas due to the ban. President Joe Biden rescinded these orders when he took office in 2021.
