Australia made a strong plan against Bumrah; Chief selector himself told the reason for change in the team

IND vs AUS 4th Test: Australia has announced its squad for the remaining two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Friday (20 December). In a major change, 19-year-old Sam Konstas was included as the opening batsman in place of Nathan McSweeney. McSweeney's exclusion from the team is believed to be due to his poor performance. However, Cricket Australia's chief selector George Bailey says that Sam Constas has been included in the team as a matter of strategy.

According to Cricbuzz, Cricket Australia chief selector George Bailey said that they were looking for something to take India apart with their line and length and he felt that Constas' different approach could help them do that. The highest opening partnership for Australia in six innings so far is 31 runs in the first innings in Adelaide. Bailey made it clear in his statement that he gave Constas a chance in the team as part of his strategy against Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah has so far managed to break Australia's opening partnership in five innings of three matches. During this period, Bumrah has shown McSweeney the way to the pavilion in four out of six innings.

“You could say the way our top three players are playing is pretty similar and we want to be able to do something different against India,” Bailey said. If you look broadly, I don't think the top six have performed at the level we need in this series.” He said, “I think Sam's approach, his style, is different to Nathan, and also different to Beau Webster and Josh English as the other batting options in the team, and we think he will be in the XI on Boxing Day. “We offer a different look and different makeup options.”

Bailey told that he had included McSweeney in the team because of his good performance before the series. But he also admitted that things did not go as the Australian team or McSweeney had expected. Let us tell you that Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja, who replaced McSweeney, will open the innings in the fourth Test starting from December 26 in Melbourne. If Constas gets a chance to debut, he will become Australia's youngest Test debutant since Pat Cummins made his debut against South Africa in 2011. The young batsman impressed for the Prime Minister's XI against India and in the recent season of the ICC Men's Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
