These changes have been made in Amazon Prime membership rules, will be implemented from January 2025

Amazon has changed the rules of its Prime membership terms in India. According to the Amazon help page, these changes will come into effect from January 1, 2025. According to the new rules, the number of TVs that can stream content simultaneously under the same account on Amazon Prime has been edited to only two.

According to an email sent by the company to customers, Prime members will be able to access Prime Video on up to five devices, including two TVs, from January 2025. If someone wants to watch Prime Video on more than two TVs on one account, they will have to purchase a separate subscription.

Currently, Prime members can stream on up to five devices with no restrictions on device type. Users can manage their registered devices on the Prime Video settings page. The annual Amazon Prime pack currently costs Rs 1,499.

The new message is being sent via email to existing Prime users in India and reads: “Starting January 2025, we are updating our terms of use in India to include two TVs as part of your five device entitlement. Can go. You can manage your devices on your Settings page, or purchase another Prime membership to watch Prime Video on more devices.”

Amazon has offered support for up to five devices for several years, but hasn't placed any limits on what types of devices you can stream content to from your account. However, the new changes in 2025 mean that only 2 out of 5 TVs will be able to run, the rest could be mobiles, tablets or even laptops using the web version. The note further says, “As part of your Prime membership, you and your family can enjoy Prime Video on up to five devices.”

Before Amazon, Netflix had turned off the option to share accounts with people. Some devices are limiting support, which at one point didn't matter to people who used Prime Video and similar apps in the country. In fact, we're now seeing ad-free models that remind you of the days of cable TV when commercials were quite common on the big screen.
