New Delhi: India said on Friday that it is keeping a close eye on neighboring countries. He said this on the situation in Myanmar. As fighting intensifies between Myanmar's military regime and rebel forces, India said it is closely monitoring the developments in the neighboring country.

India also said it supports a Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned process to return peace and stability to the country. According to reports, rebel forces captured the Western Command headquarters in An city in Rakhine state after weeks of fierce fighting.

Consulate still working

India had in April transferred officials serving at the Indian Consulate in the port city of Sittwe to Yangon, a Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said. Sittwe is the capital of Rakhine State. Responding to a question, Jaiswal said that despite the transfer, our Consulate in Sittwe is still functioning.
