NewJeans’ Hanni to renew her visa or relocate to Australia? Fans land in dilemma
NewJeans announced the end of their deal with ADOR over a month ago. The agency is adamant that their agreement is still in effect, though, and rejects the group’s allegations of breach of trust. One issue that fans have been worrying about is Hanni’s Australian passport. Following the group’s unilateral contract termination, many questioned whether she would need to leave South Korea.
Her stay is set to expire, and the only way to continue working as a K-pop idol in the country is to secure or renew an E6 (Arts and Entertainment) visa through an agency. Since NewJeans’ contract with them is still in effect, an agency representative told a K-media site that they are getting ready to file paperwork to extend her visa in accordance with protocol.
Responses to their statement, however, have been conflicting. The group made its decision to terminate the contract public, despite the agency pursuing legal action to verify the agreement’s legality with the members.
She will have to depart South Korea within the next 15 days of her visa expiring if she doesn’t sign a contract with a new agency or modify her residency status. Her visa expires early next year, at which point the situation’s official status will be clarified.
Meanwhile, NewJeans declared on November 28 that they were ending their agreement with ADOR, claiming that the organization had not provided them with adequate protection. The female group and the agency’s new administration have been at odds all the time, especially after Min Hee Jin was fired as CEO.
However, a member of NewJeans has already started a new social media page called Jeansforfree, which suggests that they are changing their name to something else.
