4.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, cracks on walls of houses, no loss of life or property

kathmandu : National Center of Seismology (NCS) said that an earthquake of 4.8 magnitude occurred in Nepal on Saturday morning. According to NCS, the earthquake occurred at 3:59 am Indian Standard Time (IST). The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded at latitude 29.17 N and longitude 81.59 E at a depth of 10 km. However, according to current information, there is no loss of life or property due to the earthquake so far. But according to the information received, cracks have been seen on the walls of some houses. According to USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Jumla district.

Earthquake has become common in Nepal

Earthquakes are common in Nepal. Earthquake tremors were also felt here on 17 and 19 December. On December 19, tremors of 4.2 magnitude were felt at a distance of 16 km from Parshe in Nepal and on December 17, tremors of 4.4 magnitude were felt at a distance of 23 km from Melbisauni.

At the same time, in November 2023 itself, more than 150 people were killed in Nepal in an earthquake of 6.4 magnitude. This earthquake caused massive devastation in Jarkot and Rukum districts of western Nepal, in which about 150 people were also injured. Many houses had cracks and many houses were destroyed.

Earthquake has happened before also

Earlier, earthquake had occurred twice in Nepal in April 2023. On April 1, 2023, an earthquake of moderate intensity was recorded in Suri in Dokhla district. According to the National Seismological Center here, an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 was recorded at 11.27 am (local time) in Dolakha, 180 km east of Kathmandu.

The tremors were felt in Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap, Sindhupal Chowk and Nuwakot districts as well as in the Kathmandu Valley. After this, earthquake tremors were felt twice on the night of 28 April 2023. This time the epicenter of the earthquake was in Dahakot, Bajura. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 4.8 and 5.9 on the Richter scale.
