A 12-year-old boy in southern Tay Ninh Province tried to create firecrackers himself at home, resulting in an explosion that blew down the house’s roof.

Police of Tay Ninh on Friday said the boy bought firecrackers online, extracted the powder inside and put it inside a plastic tube at the house of a 49-year-old relative on Thursday.

During the process, the firecracker exploded, injuring the boy’s left arm, shattering objects inside the house and bringing down the roof. The boy was later taken to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

Police said people should not illegally purchase, create and use firecrackers, which may pose risks to people’s lives.
