ED gets Delhi LG’s nod to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal in excise policy case
New Delhi: In clear signs of trouble mounting for Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has given the go-ahead to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute the former chief minister in connection with a liquor policy case, sources said.
The ED had sought the LG’s permission to prosecute Kejriwal on December 5 over alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi excise policy scheme 2021-22.
After his arrest in March and the following judicial custody, Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on July 12 in the money laundering case, and the apex court later granted him bail in the CBI case on September 13.
The CBI and ED allege that irregularities took place during the modification of the excise policy, with undue favours being given to licence holders. The ED is probing the money laundering charges in the case while the CBI is investigating the corruption angle.
