India crowned champions of the inaugural U-19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup
India clinched the U-19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 title with a commanding 41-run victory over Bangladesh in the final at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval, Kuala Lumpur.
This triumph marks a significant achievement for the young Indian team, led by skipper Niki Prasad.
Opting to bat first after losing the toss, India posted a competitive total of 117/7 in their 20 overs. The highlight of the innings was G Trisha’s brilliant knock of 52 runs off 47 balls, showcasing composure and class. Trisha anchored the innings with crucial partnerships, helping India recover from early setbacks when Farjana Easmin struck twice in the fifth over. Easmin finished as Bangladesh’s standout bowler with figures of 4/23.
In response, Bangladesh struggled against India’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. They were bundled out for 75 in 17 overs. Shabnam Md Shakil provided a perfect start with the new ball, while Sonam Yadav and Parunika Sisodia dismantled the middle order with two wickets each. Aayushi Shukla also chipped in with a crucial double strike in her second spell.
Juairiya Ferdous was the lone bright spot for Bangladesh, scoring 22 runs and showing resilience amidst a flurry of wickets. However, her dismissal in the 13th over sealed the fate of the match as India tightened their grip on the game.
With this victory, India reaffirmed their dominance in women’s cricket at the youth level, promising a bright future for the sport in the country.
