Himanta government's strict action against child marriage, 416 people arrested in a single day

Action against child marriage in Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma government of Assam is taking strict action regarding child marriage. The third phase of action against it started in the state between Saturday and Sunday. Regarding this, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that 416 people have been arrested in the state while taking massive action against child marriage in Assam.

Himanta Sarma further said that, the third phase of action against child marriage in Assam was started on the night of 21-22 December. During this period, the police have registered 335 cases, while the arrested people will be presented in the court on Sunday.

The fight against child marriage will continue – CM Sarma

On the campaign being run to stop cases of child marriage in the state, CM Sarma said in a tweet on “416 arrests were made in the third phase of the operation and 335 cases were registered. The arrested persons will be produced in court today (Sunday). We will continue to take bold steps and end this social evil.”

The campaign against child marriage started in February 2023

Let us tell you that the Assam government had started the first phase of campaign against child marriage in February 2023, after which the second phase of the campaign was launched in October 2023. During the first phase in February 2023, 3,483 people were arrested and 4,515 cases were registered in the state, while during the second phase in October, 915 people were arrested and 710 cases were registered.
