Sports: BCCI breaks records, excited by bumper earnings from IPL, WPL also makes profit
IPL has become the most popular T20 league in the world. BCCI has made bumper profits from the 2023 league and the board has made 116 times more profit in 2023 than in 2022. With the increase in income, BCCI's expenses have also increased. BCCI has got a surplus of Rs 5120 crore from IPL. The board made a profit of Rs 2367 crore in 2022. According to the report, the total revenue from IPL 2023 has reached Rs 11,769 crore. The board's expenditure has increased by 66 percent to Rs 6,648 crore.
BCCI has earned the most from the media rights of IPL. Apart from this, the sponsor has also received a huge amount. The new media rights of IPL from 2023 to 2027 are worth Rs 48,390 crore. This amount will be added to the board's income for 2023. IPL TV rights acquired by Disney Star for Rs 23,575 crore. Digital rights have been acquired by Jio Cinemas for Rs 23,758 crore. The board has made a profit of Rs 377 crore through the Women's Premier League (WPL). WPL has received Rs 636 crore through franchise fees, media rights and sponsorship. The total expenditure of the league has reached Rs 259 crore.
