Acharya Satyendra Das, the chief priest of Ram Temple located in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, will continue to receive salary for life. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has taken such a decision. Satyendra Das is 87 years old, who has been serving as the chief priest in Ramjanmabhoomi for the last 34 years.
The temple trust has also requested Satyendra Das to be relieved from work related to the temple. However, Satyendra Das can come and worship in the temple whenever he wants. In the trust meeting held on 25th November, it was discussed that he should continue getting salary throughout his life. All the members present in the meeting had agreed to give lifelong salary to Satyendra Das.
Chief priest of Ram Janmabhoomi for 34 years
Acharya Satyendra Das has been serving as the Chief Archak in Ramjanmabhoomi since March 1, 1992. His salary was very low in the initial phase. He used to get a monthly remuneration of Rs 100. However, now the salary has increased significantly. Now Satyendra Das gets a salary of Rs 38500 per month.
14 priests deployed in Ram temple
Acharya Satyendra Das is the chief priest. Apart from this, 13 other priests are serving in the temple. Nine new priests have recently been deployed in the temple. The other 4 are already there. Since the time the idol of Ramlala was seated in the tent, Acharya Satyendra Das has been worshiping the Lord as a priest. The consecration of Ram temple took place on 22 January. Even now Satyendra Das is the chief priest of Ram temple.
According to Satyendra Das, people from the trust had met him. Citing health and increasing age, he has been requested to withdraw from work related to Ram temple. However, he has said that he will be given salary for life. Acharya Satyendra Das is counted among the great scholars of Sanskrit. In 1975, he received the degree of Acharya from Sanskrit Vidyalaya. In 1976, he joined the Sanskrit College of Ayodhya as an assistant teacher.
