Premier League: Mohamed Salah makes history in Liverpool’s rout of Tottenham Hotspur

New Delhi: Liverpool were expected to struggle in the post Jurgen Klopp era but have instead seemingly levelled up under Arne Slot and look like the best version of themselves. The Reds sit comfortably at the top of the table with a game in hand and are easily bossing their opponents around this season. Star winger Mohamed Salah has been a huge part of Liverpool’s rise since he came to the club and it looks like the Egyptian himself has levelled up as well.

Salah has started the season on red hot form and has carried that form over until Christmas, at the very least. The 32-year-old is aging like fine wine and seems to be getting better with age. The winger had a phenomenal 2023/24 Premier League campaign, with him scoring 18 and assisting another 10 in just 32 league games all season. This season it looks like he will shatter those numbers by some distance.

In just 16 league appearances this season, Salah has already matched his assist tally from last season, with an assist against Spurs as he set up Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal that made it 3-1 to the visitors. By moving to 10 assists in the league tonight, he scripted another piece of Premier League history as he becomes the first ever player in the league to reach double figures for both goals and assists before Christmas. His contribution in Liverpool’s rout of Spurs didn’t end there as the Egyptian added one assist and two goals more to his tally.

Mohamed Salah’s blistering start to the season

Taking his goal contributions against Spurs into account, Salah has now contributed to 26 Premier League goals in just 16 appearances this season, which includes 15 goals and 11 assists. This number could’ve been higher had Liverpool’s game against Everton not been postponed due to Storm Darragh. With the Reds having scored 37 goals in 16 games till now, Salah has now contributed to 70% of all of Liverpool’s goals this season.

Ever since the season started, there have only been two league games where Salah didn’t score or assist, with those being 1-0 win over Crystal Palace and the other being the 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, the only blemish on their season till now. Out of his 16 appearances in the season, Salah has contributed to two or more goals in eight different games, some of them being against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and now Tottenham.
