The ECB announced its squad for the Champions Trophy on Sunday 22 December. In this way, England has become the first team to announce its squad for the tournament. Not only for the Champions Trophy, but England has also announced ODI and T20 teams for the India tour. Some important players have returned in this, the biggest name of which is veteran batsman Joe Root.

Butler's captaincy intact, Root returns
The Champions Trophy is to be held in Pakistan and at a neutral venue from February 19. ICC has not yet announced which neutral venue it is and the schedule has also not been released. Nevertheless, the England Cricket Board probably has full confidence in its preparations and hence has also announced the team. The selection committee has decided to continue the captaincy of Jos Buttler while maintaining confidence in him.
Keeping in mind Joe Root's experience for the pitches of the sub-continent, the England selection committee has again called him into the team. Root has not played any ODI match since the World Cup last year. In such a situation, the selection committee has definitely made a move regarding him. Root has the highest number of 16 centuries and second highest score of 6522 runs in 171 matches for England. Apart from Root, star fast bowlers Joffra Archer and Mark Wood have also got a place in the team.

Before the Champions Trophy, the England team will be on India tour, where the T20 series will start from January 22. 5 matches will be played in this series. After this, a series of 3 ODI matches will also be played, which will serve as preparation for the Champions Trophy for both the teams. There is only one player difference in the England squad for these two series. While veteran batsman Joe Root has been included in the ODI squad, leg spinner Rehan Ahmed has been included in his place in the T20 squad. Whereas Will Jacques has been dropped after poor performance in the recent series.
