Jersey number 99 will be greatly missed.”
Praising Ashwin's bowling, the PM said, “When you came out to bowl, it seemed as if you were weaving a net to trap the opposing team. “Winning the most Man of the Series awards in Tests shows how important you have been to the team’s success.”
Mentioning Ashwin's mother in the letter, PM Modi praised his dedication towards sports in difficult circumstances. He wrote, “Contributing to the team despite your mother being hospitalized and playing against South Africa even during the floods in Chennai shows your honesty and commitment.”
Important contribution in historic victory
The PM remembered Ashwin's contribution by mentioning the 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. He wrote, “Taking five wickets on Test debut, being part of the team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup, and leading the team to victory in the last over in the 2013 Champions Trophy are testament to your talent.”
