Indian players who stood out at the Women’s U19 T20 Asia Cup 2024
The Indian Women’s U19 Cricket team delivered an outstanding performance at the Women’s U19 T20 Asia Cup, becoming the inaugural champions of the tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday.
Led by Niki Prasad, the Indian team had a dominant run throughout the tournament and secured the trophy without losing a single match, including the final, where they outclassed Bangladesh with an emphatic 41-run victory.
This tournament served as a trial run for the team ahead of the upcoming Women’s U19 World Cup in January 2025. India will enter the competition as the reigning champions, aiming to defend their title.
Notably, the tournament unearthed several promising players for India. Opening batters G Trisha and G Kamalini showcased exceptional skills, while spinners Aayushi Shukla and Sonam Yadav also impressed with their performances.
Here are the top performers for India at the Women’s U19 T20 Asia Cup 2024:
Gongadi Trisha
Indian opening batter Gongadi Trisha was the tournament’s leading run-scorer, scoring 159 runs with an excellent strike rate of 120.45, which included two half-centuries.
She was the only Indian batter to score a half-century at this tournament and both of her fifties were come up against Bangladesh. She also had the joint most sixes (5) in the tournament.
Trisha’s 58-run-inning in the final was the eye-catching as Indian team was in deep trouble, losing wickets from the other hand, but her innings helped India to score a challenging total.
Aayushi Shukla
Aayushi Shukla was the leading wicket-taker and the only player with a double-digit mark in their wicket column at this tournament, picking up 10 wickets in her 5 matches with a good economy rate of 3.27.
She was the go-to player for India whenever they needed a wicket or restrict teams from building up big partnerships. She also was the highest wicket-taker for India against Bangladesh (3/17) in the final.
Parunika Sisodia
The left-arm spinner Parunika Sisodia was one of the most experienced players and she showcased that with an impressive performance at the tournament, notching up nine wickets in five matches with an economy rate of 4.22.
Her best match was against Nepal in the pool stage where she picked up a 4-wicket haul and restricted them to reach the three-figure mark.
G Camalini
Trisha’s opening partner G Kamalini also impressed a lot in this tournament because of her powerful hitting ability. She was the second-highest Indian run-scorer at the tournament.
Scoring 85 runs at a strike rate of 114.86, the 16-year-old was the third-highest scorer of the tournament and was a key player in the Indian team because she always tried to set up a good base for the coming batters.
Sonam Yadav
Sonam Yadav only played three matches in the tournament but left a very huge impact as she picked up 8 wickets in these matches including a 4-wicket haul in the opening match of the tournament against Pakistan.
Sonam has a very good style of wicket-to-wicket bowling which stopped the batters from rotating the strike and forced them to go for some risky shots.
She has the best economy rate (2.08) in the tournament, showcasing her ability to apply breaks on the scoring rate.
