BSNL Announces eSIM Rollout Timeline, Rivals Jio and Airtel in Tech Upgrade

BSNL is stepping up its game by introducing eSIM support for its subscribers, aligning with competitors Jio and Airtelboth of which have long offered this feature. This service will allow users with eSIM-compatible smartphones to activate BSNL as their primary or secondary SIM. The news was confirmed by the Director of CM, BSNL Boardduring an AskBSNL sessionwith the feature slated for a March 2025 launch.

BSNL’s Subscriber Surge

BSNL has witnessed an impressive growth, adding over 5.5 million new subscribers in just four months since July. This spike coincides with private telecom operators Jio, Airteland Vi increasing mobile tariffs by an average of 15%pushing budget-conscious customers to explore BSNL’s affordable plans.

Unlike private players, BSNL has refrained from raising its prices, positioning itself as a reliable and cost-effective alternative in a highly competitive market.

Despite BSNL’s gains, private telecom operators remain confident that many customers will eventually return, citing potential gaps in BSNL’s customer service. However, BSNL is actively closing this gap by enhancing its service offerings and introducing new features.
