School Holiday: Schools to remain closed on these dates in January 2025
New Delhi: The new year approaches and so does the long queue of festivities and celebrations. Students all over are always excited and look forward to January as it carries a lot of events to enjoy. The celebration starts with the first day itself with the New Year’s Day on January 1. Moreover, many schools also have winter vacations till mid-January.

Winter Vacation (January 1 to January 15)
The first two weeks of January usually have winter vacations till January 15 in most of the schools across the country. The break allows students to enjoy the much-awaited season.
New Year’s Day (January 1)
The first day of the year begins with a holiday and celebration where students enjoy with family and friends before diving into the academic schedules. This day is observed across the country, symbolizing the start of new opportunities and aspirations.
Birthday of Guru Gobind Singh’s (January 6)
On January 6, Sikhs honour the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh. Schools and colleges especially in Punjab and northern regions remain closed on this day. Communities commemorate this revered leader’s legacy with prayers and ceremonies.
Makar Sankranti, Magha Bihu, Pongal, and Hazrat Ali's Birthday (January 14)
January 14 witnesses numerous festivities celebrated in diverse cultures. Makar Sankranti is marked by kite flying in many northern states, while Magha Bihu and Pongal bring joyous feasts and rituals in Assam and Tamil Nadu, respectively. Additionally, Hazrat Ali’s Birthday is also observed on January 14.
Republic Day (January 26)
Every year, Republic Day is celebrated on January 26, as on this day the Indian Constitution was adopted. Schools remain closed, and students join for the flag-hoisting ceremonies and community parades. Moreover, there are also cultural programmes and feasts as a part of the celebration.
