Gaikwad Scored Massive Ton Vijay Hazare Trophy

Gaikwad Scored Massive Ton Vijay Hazare Trophy: Batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored a fantastic century to lead Maharashtra to a massive win in their most recent Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Services.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) is India’s top-level one-day domestic tournament. These are 50-over-a-side matches with teams of states and government departments, similar to the Ranji Trophy.

Maharashtra took on Services in their second game of Group B of the VHT 2024-25 season. The match was played at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai and saw Maharashtra win the toss and decide to bowl first.

Services got off to a decent start, reaching the score of 100 in 20 overs with the loss of just two wickets. However, from that point, the innings started collapsing. By the time the inning reached 30 overs, not only had the run rate come down to a crawl, but more wickets had fallen, the score being 130/6.

A late-inning recovery took Services past the 200-run mark but not too far away from the milestone, as the whole team was all out for 204.

With a target of 205 in 50 overs, Om Bhosale and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad came to bat for Maharashtra. And from this point on, this team never looked back.

While the opening pair did score runs quickly, scoring at the run rate of about 10 per over, it was mostly Gaikwad who was knocking the ball all over the ground. Bhosale got out for 24 off 20. At that time, the team score was 86 in 8.2 overs, and the skipper had already reached his 50.

The remainder of the 120-or-so runs were almost entirely scored by Ruturaj Gaikwad. When Maharashtra did win by nine wickets in the 21st over, No. 3 batter Siddesh Veer was batting at 22 off 28, while Ruturaj scored 148 off 75, with 16 fours and 11 sixes. There was no surprise that he was named the Player of the Match.

This was Maharashtra’s second win in two games in the VHT, as they are one of the favourites to win this whole tournament.

As for Ruturaj, the Chennai Super Kings captain has 16 hundreds and 17 fifties in just 78 List A matches, with this being one of his best innings in terms of the way he scored his runs.

With the 50-over ICC Champions Trophy 2025 right around the corner, the VHT is likely the proving ground for players to enter the Indian Cricket Team for CT 2025, and Ruturaj has given a fantastic audition.
