There are several actors who started their careers by taking on different odd jobs to support themselves while chasing their dreams of stardom. From waiting tables and delivering food to working retail, these early jobs often serve as stepping stones to fame. One such actor, now a household name, took a trip down memory lane while on honeymoon with his actor wife and reflected on the humble jobs he once held before making it big in the industry. The actor is Vivek Dahiya.

The actor and his humble beginnings

Born in 1984 in Chandigarh, Vivek Dahiya earned his master’s degree in International Business Management from De Montfort University, England. During his time in the country, he took on a variety of odd jobs. At just 18, he worked as a bartender, handling everything from broken glassware to mopping floors. He also worked in a tissue paper factory and later took a retail job. But when the recession hit, he was among 60-70 employees laid off. With few options available, he found himself working as a pizza delivery driver.

He said, “After that, I joined a retail store and then a call centre. However, around 60-70 of us were laid off after the recession struck. I was left with no choice but to take up whatever came my way and became a pizza delivery boy. By the end of the day, my car used to smell of pizzas. I could never get rid of the smell and eventually, had to sell the car at a discounted rate.”

While on his honeymoon, the actor visited the pizza parlour again where he once worked and ran into a former colleague who was still employed there. He mentioned, “During my honeymoon, I went back to the pizza parlour where I used to work. One of my former colleagues, the only one who was still working there, asked me, ‘Aren’t you the guy who used to deliver pizzas in the luxury car?’ I was glad to be part of a society where people don’t look down on you because of your job. I don’t believe that any job is big or small.”

The actor’s television and film career

Vivek Dahiya made his television debut with the show Yeh Hai Aashiquiin 2013. Later, he was seen in numerous renowned shows, including Kavach – From the dark powers, the night of Qayamat and Aadaalat. In 2018, he, along with Divyanka Tripathi, emerged as the winner of the reality series Dance 8. In 2014, he was replaced by Fawad Khan in Shashanka Ghosh’s Beautiful. In a conversation, he revealed that he was instantly chosen for the lead role when he went for the audition. However, he became extremely nervous during the reading part. He said, “I started to sweat, I was fumbling and I was too nervous to do the role and that’s what Sonam caught about me and she understood me and she told me not to worry and told me to go home and prepare with the script and they would do another run fair enough. I was slightly good but not that good to what a lead had to be in a big banner movie opposite Sonam but they had acceptance.”

The actor made his film debut with Vivek Sharma’s Chal Zindagi in 2023, alongside Shannon K, Sanjay Mishra, and Mita Vashisht.
