CLAT 2025 counselling postponed; Delhi HC asks for revision of merit list

New Delhi: The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has announced that the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 round 1 merit list will not be released as per the scheduled date i.e., December 26. The decision was taken after the Delhi High Court ordered the CNLU to revisit the CLAT answer key.

A petition was submitted to the court that challenges the CLAT final answer key 2025 seeking a revision of the result. The CLAT 2025 final answer key was released on December 7.

Regarding the change the Consortium stated, ‘We recognize that this change may cause some uncertainty, and we assure all candidates that we remain dedicated to maintaining transparency and fairness throughout the process. Any important updates will be communicated via our official channels.’

Why petition to revise CLAT result was filed?

Candidates who appeared in the CLAT exam noticed inconsistencies in the answer key in Set A. Candidates highlighted that certain answers in this set were either marked incorrectly or unclear, thus making it an unfair result for those who had attempted with this particular set. The matter was brought to the CNLU, but as per the candidates, their concerns were not addressed properly.

Hence, a group of candidates filed a petition asking the court to reevaluate the results due to errors found in the answer key, seeking fairness and accuracy.

A petitioner challenged the validity of the answer key, pointing out discrepancies in questions 14 and 100. After checking the matter, Justice Jyoti Singh noted that option ‘C’ was indeed the correct answer for question 14, asking that candidates who chose this option be awarded full marks. Furthermore, the court declared question 100 null and void.

The petition challenged the provisional answer key for eight specific questions which include 14, 37, 67, 68, 89, 99, 100 and 102. Upon review, the experts upheld the objections regarding questions 89, 99, and 102, validating the concerns raised.
