History of Ranakpur Jain Temple
Ranakpur Jain Temple, famous for its grandeur and beauty, was built about 600 years ago in 1439. Ranakpur Jain Temple took a very long time to build, and at that time an amount of around Rs 1 crore was spent on its construction. It was built with the cooperation of a local Jain merchant Dharamshah and Maharana Kumbha during his reign. Rana Kumbha then gave land to Dharanshah to build the Ranakpur Jain temple and also asked him to establish a city. The responsibility of maintenance of this grand temple was given to a trust in 1953, after which this temple was renovated and given a beautiful and new look.

The construction work of the temple started in the 15th century. In which many craftsmen, artisans and architects contributed. The construction of this temple lasted for several decades and took about 50 years to complete. The temple was named “Ranakpur” after Maharana Kumbha, who was known as “Ranak” in the region. The temple is part of the Digambara tradition of Jainism, and is known as a great religious and architectural masterpiece.

There is a stone inscription of 47 lines engraved on each pillar of the Ranakpur Jain temple, which is of Vikram Samvat 1496. Both Sanskrit and Nagari scripts have been used in it. Images of all the 24 Tirthankaras are carved in the pavilions built in the corridor near the temple. All the mandapas have shikharas and there is a bell on top of the shikhara. When the wind blows, the sound of these bells echoes throughout the temple.

Story of Ranakpur Jain Temple
There is a major story related to Ranakpur Jain temple, in which it is said that Jain businessman Dharamshah had dreamed of Lord Adinath. In this dream he received instructions to build a temple dedicated to Lord Adinath. Inspired by this divine sign, Dharamshah met Maharana Kumbha and told him about his dream, then Maharana Kumbha donated land for the construction of this temple. Maharana Kumbha started the construction of this temple. During its construction, the architects built it in all four directions to please the Lord, so that the Lord could be seen from all directions. Despite the difficulty in constructing the temple, it was built so efficiently that even today it is known throughout the world for its unique architecture. It is believed that every day's work in the construction of the temple was dedicated to Lord Adinath.
