“Learn from Virender Sehwag”: Cheteshwar Pujara gives important suggestion to struggling Indian batter
Cheteshwar Pujara said that Yashasvi Jaiswal seems to be in a hurry in the ongoing five-Test series against Australia. He scored 161 runs in the second innings of the series opener, but since then, he has failed to contribute with the bat. In the second Test, he was dismissed on the first ball, while in the third contest, he lasted for two balls. Mitchell Starc has found a weakness in his batting and his pitching the ball up to get rid of the Indian opener. Apart from his hundred, he has managed just 32 runs in the next four innings.
Pujara mentioned that the young opener is trying to score quickly. “He needs to give himself some time as he is looking in a hurry at the moment. Jaiswal should go for shots if he sure, especially in the first 10 overs. He wants to score 15-20 runs quickly,” Pujara told Star Sports.
Pujara urges Yashasvi to follow Virender Sehwag to score runs. “It is important for an opener to play the ball on merit instead of searching for it. Virender Sehwag was an aggressive batter, but he went for the shots when the ball was in his zone. Even if you are an aggressive batter, you can’t go bang, bang on every delivery,” he added.
Several former players had predicted that Yashasvi Jaiswal would be among the top run-getters in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, but he is lacking consistency. It is important from India’s perspective that he score runs in the remaining two matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Sydney Cricket Ground.
