New Zealand had made it to the knockout stage by defeating Zimbabwe. India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and West Indies won in the quarterfinals and reached the semi-finals. South Africa won the Champions Trophy title for the first time by defeating West Indies.

Australia has won the Champions Trophy title the most number of times so far. Australia had won the titles in 2006 and 2009. India has also won this trophy twice, but out of the two, in 2002, India had to share the trophy with Sri Lanka, because the match was drawn due to rain. Whereas, India won the trophy in 2013.

Apart from this, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies have also won the Champions Trophy title once each.
