IMD Weather Update: Cold wave grips north India, fresh snowfall in Himachal, Kashmir
New Delhi: North India is under the grip of severe cold wave with Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir valley witnessing fresh snowfall. Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana and parts of Uttar Pradesh witnessed sharp drop in day temperatures after a spell of light rains in these areas on Monday.
Weather in Uttarakhand
High altitudes areas in Uttarakhand have recorded fresh snowfall with chilly winds gripping the state. Temple town of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri and Hemkund Sahib in Garhwal also recorded fresh snowfall intensyfying the chill.
Clouds dominated Uttarakhand across the day in Dehradun and other areas. To the delight of tourists, Dhanolti, Mussoorie and Chakrata also witnessed snowfall.
Weather in Himachal Pradesh
On Monday, Himachal capital Shimla received second light snowfall of the season. Other parts of the state also received light rains and snow. Snowfall was also recorded at tourist destinations of Kufri and Narkanda. Snowfall also hit parts of Kharapathar, Chaurdhar and Chanshal Pass. Snowfall was also recorded in Shimla with the city registering 8 cm of snowfall.
Delhi weather
The National Capital Region (NCR) including Delhi, Noida also registered light rains on Monday morning with the minimum temperature coming down to 8.6 degrees Celsius, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD). Parts of Haryana and Punjab also recorded a sharp drop in temperatures with the light rains hitting several areas of the two states.

Light rains were also witnessed in Chandigarh on Monday with the maximum temperature falling to 13.7 degrees Celsius, falling six degrees below normal.
Ambala in Haryana recorded a minimum temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal. Hisar too witnessed cold spell with the temperature falling to 14.1 degrees.
