Sholay went on to run in theatres for an incredible six years and sold 15 crore tickets in India during its initial release. Remarkably, the film sold an additional 3 crore tickets in India during its re-release.
On the global front, the film received immense love, particularly in Russia, where it sold 6 crore tickets. Additionally, Sholay’s popularity extended to Europe, North America, and the Middle East, bringing its total ticket sales to a staggering 25 crore worldwide. Even contemporary blockbusters like Baahubali 2 and RRR haven’t achieved such phenomenal growth.
