I made a mistake… Award is not my goal, Manu Bhaker breaks silence on controversy over Khel Ratna

Sports Desk: India's star shooter Manu Bhaker has given her first reaction to the controversy over her name not being in the nomination list for the Khel Ratna Award. In fact, questions were raised over Manu's name not being in the list of players nominated for the Khel Ratna Award.

Amidst various claims, Manu Bhakar says that his aim has never been to win awards but has always been to increase the respect of the country. Along with this, regarding the nomination, he said that maybe he had made some mistake at the time of application.

Making a big disclosure through social media, she said, “On the ongoing discussion regarding my nomination for the Khel Ratna Award, I would like to say that my duty is only to play for the country. Things like getting awards or any kind of honor encourage me, but that is not my goal.”

Manu Bhakar, who won 2 medals for India in Paris Olympics 2024, also told that she might have made a mistake at the time of nomination. He said, “I think I made a mistake here at the time of nomination, which has been rectified. Whether I get the award or not, I will remain committed and try to win more medals for the country. I urge everyone not to make separate claims in this matter.”

The matter came to light when Manu Bhaker's name was not included in the nomination list for the Khel Ratna Award. A media report revealed that Manu and his family wanted to apply for the Padma Shri award, but the process is different. NRAI President Kalikesh Narayan Singh while giving a statement on this subject said that it is the responsibility of the player to apply. Despite this, the association, on behalf of Manu, had requested the Sports Ministry to include his name in the list.
