Mutual fund industry to see asset growth of Rs 17 lakh crore in 2024

Mumbai Mumbai:Driven by rally in stock markets, strong economic growth and increased participation of investors, the mutual fund industry maintained the growth momentum with an impressive growth of Rs 17 lakh crore in assets in 2024. The industry's assets under management (AUM) were recorded at an all-time high of Rs 68 lakh crore at the end of November, marking a growth of 33% from Rs 50.78 lakh crore recorded at the end of 2023. The data shows that the AUM of the mutual fund industry increased from Rs 50.78 lakh crore at the end of December 2023 to an all-time high of Rs 68 lakh crore in 2024 (end of November). This year's numbers do not include the December numbers which will be revealed in the first week of 2025.

Another aspect highlighted by the AMFI data was that industry AUM in 2024 also recorded its 12th consecutive annual growth after declining in the last two years. This growth in the industry was supported by investment in equity schemes, especially Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), which have seen consistent net inflows on a monthly basis since March 2021. Equity markets have also contributed significantly, with the Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex indices rising 8.5 per cent and 8 per cent respectively in 2024. It is also worth noting that the capital expenditure by the government till October 2024 was Rs 4,66,545 crore, which is only 42% of the Rs 11,11,111 crore budgeted for FY25.
