Lakshya Sen will participate in the first session of King Cup International Badminton Open
Shenzhen: India's ace shuttler Lakshya Sen is among the top eight players participating in the King Cup International Badminton Open 2024 to be held from December 27 to 29 in Shenzhen, People's Republic of China. The inaugural edition of the tournament kicked off by China's two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan will see eight men's singles players compete for the coveted title. The King Cup International Badminton Open is a non-ranking event and is not part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) calendar.
The star-studded contest is led by Paris 2024 silver medalist Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand, who is the reigning world champion and world number five. World number two Anders Antonsen of Denmark is the top-ranked player in the competition. Paris 2024 semi-finalist Lakshya Sen joins Singapore's 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew, Hong Kong's Angus Ng Ka Long and Frenchman Alex Lanier in the strong line-up. China's challenge will be led by two 18-year-old local players Hu Zhe En and Wang Zi Jun, both currently ranked outside the top 100. Lakshya Sen is set to face Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong in his quarterfinal match on Friday. The tournament adopts a single-elimination format, consisting of a total of 10 matches. Veteran Lin Dan and Indonesia's Taufik Hidayat will face each other in an exhibition match on Sunday. Lin Dan, gold medalist at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympics, will take on now-retired Athens 2004 champion Taufik Hidayat. King Cup International Badminton Open 2024 Players and Draw:
