Jasprit Bumrah to miss the ICC Champions Trophy? Reports make a shocking claim
A huge debate has been going on regarding the injuries faced by Jasprit Bumrah, which did not enable him to bowl during the last Test against Australia. With the Champions Trophy coming up in February, selectors were left worried about his availability, with media speculations saying that he would be out for a long time. Times of India reports that cricketers suffering from similar ailments believe “if it is a back spasm as the team management said”, Bumrah is supposed to recover before the tournament. In the event of it being a Grade 1 stress fracture, on the other hand, the out-time for Bumrah might be much longer during which he completely misses a lot of actions with the Indian cricket team.
“It does depend on the final diagnosis of injury. Back spasm is usually considered orange light; it suggests something worse is yet to come, and you need to stop at that point… Bumrah must have read the signs and, sensing an injury like that, wisely decided to pull up in Sydney,” a former India Test bowler who faced a similar injury remarked to Times Of India.
Most likely he felt tightness in upper back this time. The reports have gone to his surgeon, we should have the final results very soon from that. My hunch is he will be part of the first squad announced for CT. After all, you can have an injury replacement later, said the pacer.
Former India trainer Ramji Srinivasan also weighed in on the development.
Much of the time, if it just spasms, he should fit. He may even feel all right before flying back home. However, I am not so sure about it. This injury is because of stress due to too much cricket. If it is between a Grade 1 or Grade 3 injury about stress fracture, it may take between one to six months recovery,” Ramji told TOI.
