Akashdeep set to be out of action due to injury, Set to miss the…

Indian fast bowler Akash Deep is reportedly set to miss the next white-ball series against England. The 27-year-old has not yet played his maiden T20I or ODI. His availability for selection for the five T20Is, starting from his hometown Kolkata, is not to be taken for granted.

The cricketer missed out on the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia due to back pain and is expected to stay away from action for a minimum of one month, according to a report by Cricbuzz. It is said that after a period of one month, the appealer will head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, which has now been renamed the New Centre of Excellence.

Although the Bengal-based man has not played limited overs, he has been sound in Test matches recently and could have potentially played if to injuries not having played a part in denying him a spot in the team with the absence of the senior fast bowling duo, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

The senior duo himself is expected to be out of the action during the forthcoming T20Is against England. The two bowled more than 150 overs apiece during the whole tour Down Under and need to now take proper rest and look after themselves to be available for other important games like the Champions Trophy.

Deep, on the other hand, may be in contention for a place in the Champions Trophy-squad as per the news. However, the availability will rest on NCA clearance. The 28-year-old carries a pretty decent record in the List-A molding through 42 wickets in 28 matches at a mean of 24.5 and an economy of 4.82. He is even a good batter down the order as witnessed later on when he helped India escape follow-on during observing a Test at the Gabba here in Australia last week.

In addition, the report states that the selection committee is scheduled to meet sometime around the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting on January 12 to announce the ODI and T20I squads for the series against England, along with the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy.
