Over a span of five decades, this actor has delivered numerous superhit films, and despite being in his 70s now, he is still regarded as one of the top actors in the industry.
So many actors have come and gone in the industry. However, only a few have been hailed as superstars for decades. Starting their careers in the 60s and continuing to remain everyone’s favourite even today, the actor we are talking about has cemented his place in Bollywood. Over a span of five decades, this actor has delivered numerous superhit films, and despite being in his 70s now, he is still regarded as one of the top actors in the industry.
While everything seems rosy for this actor today, his life has seen its share of ups and downs. We are talking about none other than the Shehenshah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan.
Although Amitabh is now considered one of the biggest actors in Bollywood, his journey to the top was far from easy. He began his career in 1969 with a voice-over role in the National Award-winning film Bhuvan Shome. His major acting debut came the same year with the film Saat Hindustani, where he played a poet in the story of seven Indian revolutionaries.
Despite delivering a powerpack performance, luck did not favour Amitabh. The movie failed to perform well at the box office. Even after this, Amitabh continued to play small or supporting roles in various films for four years. Unfortunately, his career graph kept declining. Then, in 1973, a film was released that became the turning point in Amitabh’s career and proved to be a blessing.
In 1973, director Prakash Mehra was searching for a leading face for his film Zanjeer. Several actors were on the director’s radar, including Dev Anand and Raaj Kumar. However, none agreed to take up the role, and eventually, Amitabh Bachchan was offered the part. Without hesitation, Amitabh accepted the opportunity, and this decision changed everything. He became an overnight sensation, and his fortunes turned around dramatically.
This blockbuster marked the first on-screen pairing of Pran and Amitabh Bachchan. It also ushered in the era of ‘angry young man’ films in the Hindi film industry. Following its success, the industry gained a star who continues to shine brilliantly even today.
