New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released 'Genome India Data' under the 'Genomics Data Conclave'. During this, the PM said, 'Genome India Project' is an important milestone in India's biotechnology revolution and I am confident that this project will prove to be a milestone in the field of biotechnology. Modi said, with the help of 'Genome India Data', it will help in developing effective treatment for many diseases including genetic diseases in India. With the help of this project, we have been successful in creating a diverse genetics resource in the country. In this project, genome sequencing of 10,000 people belonging to different populations of the country was done. Now this data is going to be available to our scientists. This will greatly help our scientists in understanding the genetics landscape of India.

The Prime Minister said, today India has taken a very historic step in the world of research. Genome India Project was approved 5 years ago. Despite the challenges of Covid, our scientists have completed this project with great hard work. I am happy that more than 20 leading research institutes of the country like IISc, IIT, CSIR and BRIC have played an important role in this research. Genome data of 10,000 Indians is now available on the Indian Biological Data Centre.

Narendra Modi said, India has launched BioE3 policy. The objective of this policy is for India to emerge as a global leader in the biotech landscape like the IT revolution. India has gained recognition as one of the leading pharma hubs of the world and today the country is taking this recognition to new heights. Free healthcare, availability of medicines at up to 80 per cent discount through Jan Aushadhi Kendras and creation of modern medical infrastructure have benefited crores of Indians in the last ten years.
