Dense fog in Punjab-Haryana, visibility reduced to zero, winter continues
Chandigarh: Today i.e. on Friday, there was dense fog in many areas of Punjab and Haryana, due to which visibility reduced significantly. The oppression of winter continues in both these states. Today Fazilka was the coldest place in Punjab, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.4 degrees Celsius.
In this regard, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), visibility in Amritsar remained zero due to dense fog. Fog was also seen in Ludhiana, Patiala, Chandigarh, Ambala, Hisar and Karnal.
The minimum temperature in Amritsar, Punjab was five degrees and in Patiala it was 6.5 degrees Celsius. It was 5.4 degrees in Ludhiana, 4.2 degrees in Pathankot, 5.4 degrees in Bathinda and five degrees Celsius in Faridkot and Gurdaspur districts. The minimum temperature of Ambala in Haryana was 7.4 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature was recorded at three degrees in Narnaul, four degrees in Hisar, five degrees in Karnal and Sirsa and 8.8 degrees Celsius in Rohtak. The minimum temperature in Chandigarh, the common capital of both the states, was recorded at 6.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal.

Talking about the capital Delhi, visibility became zero due to dense fog on Friday morning, due to which air and rail operations were affected. Today, more than 100 flights were delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport and 26 trains were running behind schedule. The Meteorological Department said that visibility in Palam is zero since 4.30 am Indian time.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), visibility remained up to 50 meters in Safdarjung from 5.30 am due to dense fog. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at six degrees Celsius, 0.9 degrees below normal, while the air quality was recorded in the severe category. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the air quality index (AQI) at 9 am stood at 408, which falls in the severe category.

Meanwhile, meteorologists have predicted very dense fog during the day and the maximum temperature will be around 16 degrees Celsius. In this regard, today AQI between zero to 50 is 'good', between 51 to 100 is 'satisfactory', between 101 to 200 is 'moderate', between 201 to 300 is 'bad', between 301 to 400 is 'very bad'. And between 401 and 500 is considered 'severe'. (with agency input)
