Divya's film journey started in 1988, when she was in ninth grade in a Mumbai school and she was signed by film producer Nandu Tolani. Divya Bharti started her career in 1990 at the age of 16 with the Telugu film Bobbili Raja. After this, in 1992 he debuted in Bollywood with the film Vishwatma. Since then his career continued to reach greater heights. Divya worked in 21 films till her death in 1993, out of which 13 were superhits and 8 were hits. She became so popular that many producers yearned to cast her in their films.

Divya worked with big stars like Govinda, Shahrukh Khan and Sunil Shetty during her career. According to reports, she used to charge up to Rs 50 lakh for a film.

In the beginning of 1993, Divya's career and personal life were at a good juncture. But an unexpected incident ended his life. In April 1993, Divya died tragically after falling from the balcony of her fifth floor apartment. Initially many rumors spread about his death, but his family did not consider it to be part of any conspiracy. At that time Divya was married to film producer Sajid Nadiadwala.
