New Delhi. The resignation of former Punjab Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal from the post of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was accepted. Now the party will be reorganized for which new membership will be prepared. Sukhbir Badal had resigned from his post on 16 November 2024 but his resignation was not accepted. After the working committee meeting of SAD today, it was announced that Sukhbir's resignation has been accepted. Now SAD's membership campaign will be run from January 20 to February 20. After accepting his resignation, Sukhbir Badal thanked all the party leaders and workers for expressing confidence in his leadership and extending support and cooperation during his tenure. Let us tell you that in December last month, Sukhbir Singh Badal and some cabinet members who were part of his government were given religious punishment. The Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib had sentenced Sukhbir Badal to clean the washroom in the Gurudwara, wash dirty utensils and other punishments.

Actually, this punishment was given to Sukhbir Badal on the charge that during the Shiromani Akali government, he called Jathedar Sahibs to his residence and pressurized them to grant pardon in a case related to Gurmeet Ram Rahim. Before that, Akal Takht had declared Sukhbir Badal as 'Tankhaiyya'. A person found guilty of a religious act is called 'Tankhaiyya'. After this, when Sukhbir Badal was serving the Jathedar in the Gurudwara, a person named Narayan Singh Chauda opened fire on him. However, Sukhbir Badal had a narrow escape in this attack.
