Delhi: Underworld don Chhota Rajan's health deteriorated in Tihar Jail, admitted to AIIMS.

Underworld don Chhota Rajan, lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail, has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for treatment after his health deteriorated. Delhi Police has increased security in the ward of AIIMS where Chhota Rajan is admitted. According to sources, Chhota Rajan's health deteriorated recently, after which he was taken to AIIMS. Investigation revealed that Rajan was suffering from sinus problems, and doctors said that he might have to undergo surgery.

At present, Rajan is admitted in the hospital. Chhota Rajan had many health problems earlier also. This is not the first time for treatment outside jail. The jail administration said that Chhota Rajan's condition is being constantly monitored and he is being treated as per the advice of doctors. Till now, there has been no official statement on when and how serious Chhota Rajan's surgery will be at AIIMS.

Chhota Rajan is guilty of life imprisonment

Don Chhota Rajan was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court in Mumbai in May 2024 in the case of murder of hotelier Jaya Shetty in 2001. He was sentenced to a similar punishment six years ago in the murder case of journalist Jedde. Rajan was convicted by special judge AM Patil under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) under sections 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of MCOCA. Rajan is currently in Delhi's Tihar Jail, a fine of Rs 16 lakh has also been imposed on him.

Came to India after being extradited from Indonesia in 2015

Chhota Rajan's original name is Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje. In October 2015, Indonesian police arrested him in Bali before releasing him in India. The gangster fled and lived abroad for almost three decades before his arrest.

Chhota Rajan was the right hand man of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Shetty, the owner of the Golden Crown Hotel, was shot dead on the first floor of Gamdevi in ​​central Mumbai on 4 May 2001. The prosecution said that Shetty and Kundan Singh Rawat were shot by members of an organized crime syndicate led by Rajan.
