Gurpreet Gogi had been a councilor from Congress thrice. He also held the post of District Chief of Congress. Gurpreet Bassi Gogi was also the Chairman of Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation during the Congress government in Punjab. Gurpreet Bassi Gogi's wife had contested the election for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation councilor, but was defeated by the Congress candidate.
