Rape of female player for 2 years, allegations against more than 60 people including coach; 6 arrested
Pathanamthitta: A case of rape of a girl multiple times over the course of 2 years has come to light in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. Police have registered 4 FIRs regarding this and 6 people have been arrested. More than 60 people are suspected to be involved in this case. Quoting the police, it was told that the victim had turned 18 only two months ago. It is alleged that she was raped several times since the age of 16. This matter came to light when counseling was being done by the Child Welfare Committee. A complaint was made by the victim's teachers in the educational institution that there was a change in her behaviour.
Rajeev, president of Pathanamthitta Child Welfare Committee, said the girl revealed about the sexual abuse during a school counseling session. After this, a case was registered with the police on behalf of the Child Welfare Committee. The girl is a sportsperson who was abused by coaches, classmates and local residents at several places, including sports camps in Pathanamthitta. The report quoted the police as saying that the victim did not have her own phone. She had saved the numbers of about 40 people in her father's mobile who abused her.
According to the report, the Child Welfare Committee members also took the girl to a psychologist. Its purpose was to find out whether his allegations were true or not. On the other hand, the Kerala High Court adjourned till January 14 the hearing of the bail plea filed by prominent businessman Bobby Chemmanur in the sexual harassment case. Chemmanur was arrested in connection with a sexual harassment case filed against him by a Malayalam actress. Chemmanur, who is lodged in the district jail, approached the High Court after the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court II refused to grant him bail. After this he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. Considering the petition, Justice Kunhikrishnan said that no special consideration can be taken in Chemmanur's case.
