Edible Oil Price: Prices of most oils and oilseeds improved amid weak arrivals, groundnuts sold at MSP

New Delhi: Amid weak arrival of various oilseeds in the mandis, an improvement in the prices of most of the oilseeds was seen in the country's oil-oilseeds market on Saturday. Despite this, soybean seeds, groundnut and sunflower oilseeds are being sold at prices lower than the MSP. Market sources said only groundnut oil prices remained at their previous levels amid weak export demand. The prices of other oils and oilseeds closed showing improvement. Sources said that the arrival of mustard in the mandis was very less i.e. about 1 lakh 30-35 thousand bags.

The situation has remained balanced due to wise selling of cooperative institutions like HAFED and NAFED. Similarly, Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) should also sell cotton seed as per the purchase cost of Minimum Support Price (MSP) because this time the production of cotton is less. Otherwise, instead of selling cottonseeds at a price lower than the MSP cost, CCI should create its stock because the need for cottonseed will increase in future.

Crops like sunflower have also been affected

Sources said that in recent times, crops like groundnut, soybean, sunflower have also been affected due to the sale of cotton seeds at cheap prices. Such sales can only spoil the business sentiment, hence cotton seed should be stocked or sold as per MSP cost.
