Nokia smartphones are gone! Once again!

Delhi Delhi. This was certain. HMD Global has discontinued Nokia smartphones forever. Even months after the launch, all Nokia smartphones available for sale have been removed from HMD's website in many markets including India. HMD has moved Nokia's entire smartphone lineup to a new web page, where the devices are marked as “Discontinued.”

Just a few months after HMD launched a smartphone with its own brand, the journey has come to an end for Nokia smartphones. HMD moved away from the Nokia brand and revamped its entire phone portfolio including feature phones. To get ahead of its competitors, the Finnish company introduced phones like Barbie Phone, Skyline and Crest. However, the company has never confirmed that it plans to phase out the Nokia name, which it has been using for its smartphones and feature phones for nearly seven years.

HMD Global came out as a savior for the Nokia phone business after Microsoft's experiment with Lumia failed. As Nokia's patron, HMD Global started selling Nokia-branded smartphones and feature phones. Initially, sales were brisk, driven primarily by the nostalgia that forced Microsoft to struggle to attract customers. However, nostalgia was not enough to boost sales. HMD Global faced several challenges in reclaiming Nokia's market share, including stiff competition from Chinese smartphone companies. This forced HMD to innovate further, resulting in notable devices like the nine-camera phone, the Nokia 9 PureView. There was only so much HMD could do to sell Nokia phones like Xiaomi or Oppo and it realized it needed a change.

Apart from smartphones, Nokia-branded tablets have also been discontinued. But this means that customers can no longer buy Nokia smartphones from the official website. They can still find discontinued Nokia smartphones and tablets on third-party shopping platforms. But there is still hope for Nokia. HMD has not delisted Nokia's feature phones, hinting that it may still be interested in exploring the feature phone market using the Nokia brand. The company has previously revealed that its feature phone business is a revenue driver in several markets.
