Big challenge faced by food delivery companies, time sought to meet Union Minister

New Delhi : A new uproar has started regarding quick commerce apps that deliver food in 10 minutes. New challenges have arisen before food delivery companies Swiggy and Blinkit. The owners of hotels and restaurants have announced a fight against these companies. Both these apps, Blinkit Bistro and Swiggy Snacks, have been accused of using restaurant data to expand their brands.

Restaurant owners and hoteliers have demanded action against this from the Union Commerce Ministry. Hotel-Restaurant Federations have alleged that Zomato and Swiggy are using the items and rate lists of partner restaurants through the aggregator platform to promote Blinkit Bistro and Swiggy snack brands.

Asked for time to meet Union Minister

Pradeep Shetty, Vice President of The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India, has informed that they have sought time to present their views before the Union Commerce Ministry. He is also trying to meet Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal by next week. We are requesting to implement the e-commerce rules in its letter and spirit. Both e-commerce partners cannot develop their own private product brands in place of restaurant product delivery. Pradeep Shetty has said in some media reports that he should stick to the marketplace only and should not promote any private brand. The Hotel and Restaurant Association of India is a group of 60 thousand hotel and 5 lakh restaurant owners in the country.

There are also preparations to go to CII

National Restaurant Association of India, another organization of 5 lakh restaurants, is also preparing to approach the Competition Commission of India i.e. CII against Zomato and Swiggy. The National Restaurant Association has also accused Zomato and Swiggy of violating the Copyright Act, anti-competitive norms and other laws.
National Restaurant Association President Sagar Daryani said that these aggregators should enable restaurants for quick delivery, instead they are trying to destroy us by selling products similar to ours.
