Yunus's big allegation: Hasina government has put Bangladesh in financial crisis

Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus said in a statement that theft of billions of dollars of public funds has plunged the country into a deep financial deficit. He has made serious allegations of corruption against the government of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and demanded the return of stolen properties.

Mohammad Yunus condemned the scams and embezzlement of public funds that took place during the tenure of Sheikh Hasina's government. He said that the money of the people of Bangladesh has been stolen and international cooperation will be taken to bring it back. Yunus alleged that Hasina government badly affected the economic stability of the country.

Hasina family under investigation
Bangladesh's Anti Corruption Department (ACC) has started investigation against Sheikh Hasina and her family. The name of his niece, British MP and anti-corruption minister Tulip Siddiq is also included in the investigation.

Focus of investigation:

Embezzlement of $5 billion linked to a nuclear power project funded by Russia.
Alleged occupation of a high-profile property in a major suburb of Dhaka.

Tulip Siddiq spent several years in a flat in London which was given as a gift to a Bangladeshi lawyer associated with Hasina.
The report also said that several other London properties purchased by members or associates of Hasina's Awami League party were used by Siddiq and his family.
However, Siddiq has resigned from his post and has denied any wrongdoing.

Yunus's statement
Mohammad Yunus said, “Tulip Siddiq probably did not have complete information about these properties, but now that the truth has come to light, he should apologize to the people of Bangladesh.”
