Harbhajan Singh blasts BCCI for “Not Picking” record-breaking Batsman for having a simple lifestyle
Former Indian cricketing legend Harbhajan Singh lashed out at BCCI for not India’s record-breaking batter Karun Nair. Harbhajan questioned that if he does not have a flashy lifestyle, should he not get to play cricket.
Harbhajan Singh has lashed out at BCCI for ignoring star Indian batter Karun Nair. The right-handed batter has enjoyed a purple patch in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and might as well be on his way to Indian team. Nair played his last match for India in 2017.
As he spoke on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan pitched the question that not having any tattoos or showing off fancy clothes have become the reason that Nair has not been taken.
“Many are selected on the basis of just two games, some are just selected basis the IPL. So, why are rules different for him? People say Rohit and Virat are out of form, and you’re sending them to Ranji. But those who are playing Ranji and scoring runs… why are you ignoring them? When will these guys play? They are scoring runs here,” Harbhajan asked.
“Different rules for different people… that shouldn’t be the way. When they are scoring runs, you need to play him, right? He doesn’t have tattoos, doesn’t wear fancy clothes, is that the reason you’re not picking him? Does he not work hard?” he added.
Nair got dropped from the Indian team after the England tour in 2018. He looked set to play the fifth Test of the series, but Hanuma Vihari took the higher side and joined the team for the last two Tests.
Hanuma kept his spot after Nair got dropped. While he chances of Nair making his way into the Champions Trophy are weak, he can still return for the England Test series in June.
