Team India’s Star wicketkeeper set to turn up for Ranji trophy: Reports

India’s Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant makes himself available for Delhi’s next Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra starting in Rajkot from January 23. He told PTI that DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma on Tuesday.

He played his last Ranji Trophy match back in 2017-2018, but there is no clarity over his involvement in the prestigious championship, super star Virat Kohli, who was last seen wearing the Delhi colors of Ranji Trophy in 2012.

Both players have been named in Delhi’s probables for the rest of the season.

“Yes Pant has confirmed his availability for the next Ranji game and will join the squad in Rajkot directly. About Virat Kohli we want him to play but we haven’t heard from him while Harshit Rana is selected in the T20 squad and hence is unavailable.”-Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma told PTI.

Legends Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri are among the critics who want the current crop of players in the Indian cricket team to play a lot of red-ball cricket, especially the struggling Rohit Sharma and Kohli, after the series defeat in Australia.

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are also expected to play in their state teams.

Rohit’s training with Mumbai on Tuesday had excited plenty of speculations, but whether or not he would take part in the next round of Ranji Trophy matches was yet to be known, starting from Jan. 23.

Kohli, reclining to Ranji Trophy for the red ball, has also spawned extreme discussions to assist Rohit.

Naming their key players among the probables is commonplace for the DDCA but their selection in the final team depends generally on their availability.

Rohit was rested for the last Test in Australia because of poor form. Kohli’s woes were symptoms of his worsening struggles outside the off-stump, with the majority eight of his dismissals being caught behind the wicket while the remaining seven came through mis-hits in the fifth Test.

Delhi has named a full quota of 38 probables, including the trio of Pant, Harshit Rana, along with him. In Group D standings, they are lying in fourth place with 14 pts. in 5 games.
